Job Description

We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 100 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. We provide a range inpatient and community services to 2m people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire. We also provide additional specialist services to other parts of Northern England.

We have an exciting secondment opportunity or fixed term contract for an enthusiastic and proactive Specialist Dietitian to join our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services covering Teesside. This post provides an opportunity to work as part of a broader and supportive team of Dietitians working within a specialist mental health and learning disabilities NHS Foundation Trust.

This unique role requires an organised individual who will be confident in establishing key relationships within the various CAMHS teams in Hartlepool, Stockton, Middlesbrough and Redcar, and support the provision of non-judgmental timely Dietetic support for young people and their families. The post holder will provide a high quality, evidence based up to date nutrition and Dietetic service to young people with a number of complex presentations including faltering growth, selective eating and weight management. They will also be passionate about providing early intervention Dietetic support to those at risk of developing eating disorders and provide a vital link between the Eating Disorders Team and the wider CAMHS Teams.

As someone who will be a key member of a number of CAMHS multi-disciplinary teams, the candidate will be innovative in their approach to providing wider nutritional education which will include training of staff, delivery of group sessions and development of resources. The service also embraces a culture of service user participation and works closely with the local communities to enhance the clinical offer. The successful candidate will be passionate about establishing key relationships with our partners in Acute Trusts and other important stakeholders.

The post holder will be expected to support young people across the whole of the multi-racial and multi-cultural community of Teesside with demonstrable values and commitment to diversity and anti-discriminatory practice in line with Trust Values and Behaviours. The successful Band 6 applicant will lead by positive example in promoting these as well as being passionate about promoting the wellbeing of the young people and families we support, colleagues and themselves.

The broader Dietetic Team in the Trust is the largest and most established Dietetic team in mental health and learning disabilities in the UK and has excellent links with the Mental Health Specialist Group of the BDA. We are a dynamic team of 30 Dietitians, 6 Associate Practitioners/Dietetic Assistants and 1 Associate Nutritionist working in a number of clinical areas throughout Teesside, Darlington, County Durham, North Yorkshire, York and Selby. We have several experienced Lead Dietitians in the clinical areas of adult eating disorders, adult mental health, adult learning disabilities, children and young people, secure inpatient services and older people, and are supported by our Professional Head of Dietetics.

Candidates should have significant experience of working with service users in the field of nutrition, preferably within a mental health setting. Applicants must be a registered Dietitian and should have excellent communication and IT skills. The post will require travelling to various sites. Regular supervision will be provided and there will be a strong emphasis on Continued Professional Development. Line management will be within the Eating Disorders Team; robust operational and professional links are well established.
