Salary: UH8: £42,155 to £53,353 per annum pro rata by annual increments dependent on achieving

The School of Life and Medical Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire is seeking to appoint two
lecturers in a fixed-term position for 9 months in the first instance. The positions will contribute to
the BSc (Hons) Nutrition and BSc (Hons) Dietetics programmes and postgraduate courses. This is an

Main duties and responsibilities
The postholder will contribute to the teaching of nutrition and dietetics to undergraduate and
postgraduate students and create innovative learning activities. You will contribute to the
maintenance of a high-quality student experience for nutrition and dietetics students, ensuring that
they are fully prepared for work experience or placement, and supporting them and their
supervisors whilst on placement.
You will undertake innovative and varied assessments of students, you will be accessible to students
in the role of a personal tutor, providing tutorial assignment guidance, undertaking review of
students’ work and marking activities whilst providing constructive student feedback and evaluation.
You will be expected to take responsibility for the management and delivery of specific modules and
supervise research project work. You will contribute, where appropriate, to other programmes in the
Department of Clinical, Pharmaceutical and Biological Science and other areas, e.g. healthcare and
science programmes.
You will have the opportunity to undertake research by developing undergraduate research projects
and/or applying for research grants. You may also contribute to admissions and other marketing and
outreach activities to support the courses’ promotion and student recruitment.
In addition, the Senior Lecturer will also need to contribute to programme validation/review, to
mentor junior staff as required and contribute to academic management/leadership through
undertaking Department/School roles as required.
Skills and experience required
To undertake the role, you will have teaching and/or professional and/or research experience within
the field of nutrition and or dietetics.
For the role of Senior Lecturer you will also have experience in learning and teaching in higher
education, in research or audit relating to nutrition or dietetics, in mentoring and supporting
students and staff and demonstrate research interests in subjects related to nutrition or dietetics.
You will be motivated to teach and have highly effective communication and interpersonal skills. We
need someone who is flexible in their approach and demonstrates an ability to work as part of a
team, with an ability to multi-task and to meet deadlines. You must also have proficiency in English
Language and good IT skills.
Qualifications required
We are looking for applicants who hold a qualification in Dietetics at Undergraduate level or above.
For the senior lecturer role an MSc or above in a relevant science and/or a PhD or being near
completion of a PhD (for example within three months of viva) or working at a clinical level
equivalent to Band 7 in the NHS is essential. Holding a qualification in learning and teaching in higher
education is desirable.
Experience as a nutritionist or dietitian and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
(HCPC) is essential for the senior lecturer role.
