Summary of Role 

A Registered dietitian at Masters level with experience in a community setting, your role will be to lead a team of dietitians (supporting delivery yourself in London) to provide supported housing services a range of dietetic interventions alongside evaluating the programmes activities, and lead on programme development through a continuous needs assessment.  The programme’s overall objective will be to support young people to improve nutritional status and food literacy (including improved skills to manage a health condition). You will also oversee and develop solutions for food insecurity both in London and in Yorkshire.

The Dietetics team are vital in raising awareness of health issues and to improve access to health services for Centrepoint young people. You will lead a team and provide best practice to a team of dietitians in achieving high visibility and engagement across London. You will also provide mentoring around stakeholder engagement to ensure your team provide added value opportunities by managing service level agreements across the health and social care sector, including taking on the role of a student supervisors for dietetic students.

You will ensuring your team and yourself meet your CPD requirements each year. You and your team will also provide training, team learning and share best practice, best fitting a multidisciplinary health team and across London to housing services in an integrated approach to housing support – i.e. delivering staff consultation, advice and training to housing workers to support young people; until they are ready to engage into health work.

The post will have the following financial responsibilities – approving expenditure of the teams company purchasing cards (within agreed budget spend), alongside overseeing staff managing day to day accounting tasks for a social supermarket ‘food point’ (Centrepoint’s current food insecurity solution) – handling money, book keeping and banking cash.

As Senior Dietitian you will govern practice and compliance across the team. Providing monthly supervision and monthly reflective practice and safeguarding guidance. The role requires project and stakeholder management skills to lead on projects. Furthermore, ensure administration processes, food safety compliance, and all other requirements fitting to dietetic interventions are adhered to.

You will have a flare for writing and training; leading on the review and development of polices and procedures, and materials for publication e.g. writing blogs, reports and case studies to showcase Centrepoint’s work in food literacy and food security. You will also oversee and deliver Centrepoint’s food literacy curriculum and skills training, and evaluate frontline staff delivering the training to young people.

Key Results Areas/Success Measures

KR 1:

 

To deliver an accessible and equitable nutritional improvement programme with an overall objective of encouraging Centrepoint young people to think holistically about their individual health and wellbeing, and to take responsibility for making improvements; by engaging in food literacy skills training alongside adopting healthier lifestyle choices to achieve improved nutritional status.
Success Measure: To ensure each of your team FTE carries a caseload of eight to nine young people in consultation, and in accordance with quality standards, working practices and priorities.

As a senior you will carry a minimum caseload of 6.

Engage a caseload following the team’s framework and mentoring your team to do so; including advocacy and or brokering access to additional support for young people. You and your team will evidence at all times a strong multidisciplinary health team approach and an integrated approach with housing staff.

Ensure you and your team undertake high quality specialist health assessments – a holistic assessment with appropriate support determined and signposted to, making autonomous decisions in relation to health management planning and provide guidance as a Senior Practitioner to your team on any safeguarding or health risks identified.

You and your team will aspire to achieve at least 70% engagement in attended sessions and evidence timelines of holistic support (minimum of 20 over the course of the year per FTE) with 80% ending successfully.

KR 2: Provide solutions to young people facing food insecurity.
Success Measure: Oversee the coordination and delivery of food insecurity solutions – Food Point locations and Emergency Food Cupboards.

Ensure engagement and measuring outcomes of food insecurity solutions. Currently this would be to engage 10-20 young people each week at a single food point location, measure engagement and data on food security levels prior and during dietetics interventions.

Lead on best practice for stakeholder management ensuring the team is managing partnerships, memberships, working with fundraising teams, delivering on effective SLAs and volunteers; for an efficiently run and fully stocked social supermarket /emergency food cupboard; with full participation from its exclusive members (young people).

KR 3: Increase resources for young people to access food literacy training through Centrepoint’s food literacy curriculum and food policy work.
Success Measure: Create and lead on the delivery and evaluation of Centrepoint’s food literacy curriculum training manual to housing staff – in turn providing AQAs skills training to young people. Giving the opportunity for all young people to achieve up to 6 small qualifications in food literacy through meeting the desired outcomes listed, with 80% of young people evidence improved skills on food literacy; and 80% of young people evidence increased knowledge of food literacy.

Oversee the review of food literacy AQAs year on year, updating materials in line with BDA best practice and working with your team to provide the necessary refresher training or updates to food literacy trainers.

Provide housing workers clear guidance and health messages on food literacy and food insecurity through innovative engagement with the food policy and procedures. Ensuring each service in Centrepoint has mapped opportunities for young people, identified solutions and agreed pathways to food insecurity and opportunities to improve food literacy skills.

KR 4:

 

To ensure that health improvement programmes adopted by Centrepoint reflect the views and opinions of young people and that where possible young people are able to influence the way the Health and Wellbeing team work.
Success Measure: Your team provides numerous examples of successful outcomes evidenced through case studies each quarter.

Support delivery of team success /learning presentations for the dietetics programme each quarter.

Measure effectiveness through the team’s assessment, evaluation and session templates.

Recurring needs assessments and consulting YP as stakeholders in their own care and opportunities.

Participation opportunities increased for young people, including positive feedback and observations gathered to evidence success.

Supporting clinical needs – external referrals and supporting with appointments/ communicating with other HCPs.

KR 5:

 

Maintain continuous professional development by undertaking training in accordance with new practice requirements as and when required.
Success Measure: Engage in clinical supervision, reflective practice, line management and CPD to meet professional standards and offering a high quality service for young people. Ensure for your team also by reviewing learning a development needs and offer opportunities and training.

Improved knowledge, sharing of best practice and opportunities for co-delivery of specialist programmes.

Participate in mixed disciplined reflective practice /clinical supervision groups.

Support team learning by delivering a team learning session, and lead your team in developing a strong MDT approach with other disciplines within the health and well being team at Centrepoint– healthy relationships, substance use, mental health and psychotherapy.

 

Task 3:

 

To ensure all monitoring and evaluation requirements of both the funders and organisation are delivered at a high standard and on time, developing SLA’s where appropriate.    
Success Measure: All your and your teams files up-to-date including effective management of data.

All programme spend across the dietetics team is delivered within budget and expenditure submitted within relevant timeframes.

Successful delivery against service level agreements with external agencies in the field of health and social care to compliment or provide a health offer.

Established partnerships internally across business and support teams.

Task 4:

 

To maintain an accurate and up-to-date knowledge of community level primary care health and social care services, including appropriate public community health provision, passing all relevant information onto both service teams and Health Team members.
