1.0 WTE full time (37.5 hrs/week) (Part-time hours will be considered)

A new opportunity has arisen for a motivated, innovative dietitian with excellent communication, organisation and team working skills, interested in working within mental health and forensic in-patient services. You will join our small, friendly dietetic team in Wakefield. We welcome existing Dietitians as well as newly qualified and student Dietitian’s awaiting HCPC registration to apply for this post. Newly qualified dietitians will commence at Band 5 with a structured development programme to progress to a Band 6 after year in post. Applicants who are already on a Band 5 will be considered for a Band 6 depending on experience. Existing Band 6 applicants will commence on a Band 6 grade.

This post offers a wide range of experience. The successful candidate may have some previous experience in the mental health or forensics setting, but it is not necessary and will be supported by Band 6 and 7 dietetic colleagues within the Wakefield Team. Preceptorship is offered for a structured transition.

You will be responsible for providing dietetic care to adults of working age and people on the low secure forensic wards all at Fieldhead Hospital.

There is a strong multidisciplinary approach on the wards involving medical, nursing, pharmacy, speech and language, occupational and physiotherapy colleagues. You will be fully involved in the teams, attending professionals’ meetings/ward rounds when appropriate.

Responsibilities include assessing and reviewing patients for oral nutrition support, diabetes, refeeding syndrome, weight management and other specialist areas of dietetics but also development of health promotion for service users, staff training to implement the Trust’s food and nutrition policy, involvement in Trust nutrition audits and liaison with catering.

A laptop and phone will be provided for work use. You will take part in provision of dietetic student placements, which receive excellent feedback. There will be opportunities to take on projects and gain experience of supervising others within the department. You will receive professional development reviews, management supervision, and clinical supervision from the Dietitians already working in these clinical areas by linking in with the Dietitians’ Network across the Trust, regionally and nationally. Strong professional leadership is provided, with an emphasis on evidence-based, innovative practice and CPD opportunities.
