Job Description

Dietitian

St Helena Island, South Atlantic

2 years FTC

£30-£35k pa, depending on experience and qualifications, taxable in St Helena; a tax free International Supplement will also apply

Could you offer individualised and group-based dietetic advice and support at inpatient, outpatient, community and health promotion areas?

A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. Following the opening of its international airport in October 2017, St Helena is better placed to develop both economically and socially.

The 28-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.

As part of a multidisciplinary team developing and providing an evidence-based dietetic service, your help will be vital in reducing the risk of lifestyle illness and morbidity associated with Non Communicable Diseases as you lead the design and delivery of Tier Two weight Management for the island. Integral to the community care team, you will ensure that consistent and appropriate advice is available community wide.

Alongside the Public Health and Community Services Team and wider Health Directorate staff, you will support crèches, childcare facilities and schools. You must also participate in research and act as a specialist resource. Helping with the management of dietetics clinics, you will advise patients and their families and liaise with managers and nurses in residential care facilities and the hospital.

Educating other health and social care workers on dietetics related matters, you will also advise on diet to avoid the side effects and interactions between medications. You must assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current health plans to develop and implement dietary-care plans and provide nutritional counselling.

Holding a BSc Hons in Dietetics or a related science degree with a postgraduate diploma or higher degree in Dietetics, plus UK HCPC Registration or equivalent, you will have substantial post-qualification experience as a Dietician. You will need to have a working knowledge of a broad range of diet-related conditions and be up to date with professional practice and new research. Good verbal and written communication and competent IT skills are essential, and you will need a full driving licence.

We offer an extensive benefits package with 30 days leave pa, pro rata, fare paid travel, freight, pension contribution and relocation allowance (see overseas vacancy information). An application form can be found at www.sthelenacareers.com where further information can also be found, or you may contact Kedell Worboys on 0203 818 7610 or email: shgukrep@sthelenagov.com.

Applications must be sent to recruitment@sainthelena.gov.sh and received by 18 February 2020. Interviews will be held in London.

Due to the potential for high numbers of applications, if you have not heard from us within 2 weeks of the closing date you should assume you have not been short listed.  We would like to thank you for your interest in working for the St Helena Government.
