We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 100 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. We are delighted to announce an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Registered Dietitian to work in our Adult Mental Health Services in County Durham and Darlington. This exciting post provides an opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in a wide range of physical and mental health conditions. Clinical areas include working with patients with mental health problems in both hospital and community settings. This will involve a strong emphasis on the management of obesity and associated long term health problems. In addition, the caseload has high numbers of complex refeeding patients and patients with disordered eating.
The post holder will also have the opportunity to be involved with policy/pathway development, research, quality improvement activities, staff and student training. Our Trust is committed to providing first class Continuous Professional Development (CPD). We offer a preceptorship programme and excellent training opportunities for newly qualified Dietitians. This post is eligible for the preceptorship programme if the successful applicant is newly qualified.
The successful post holder will be a valued part of a supportive, award-winning Dietetic Team which covers Adult Mental Health, Children and Young People’s Services, Eating Disorders, Mental Health Services for Older People and Secure Inpatients Services. This dynamic Dietetic Team is supported by our Professional Head of Dietetic Services and highly skilled Lead Dietitians. Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust’s Dietetic Team is the largest and most established specialist mental health and learning disability dietetic provider in the UK and has strong links with the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and Mental Health Specialist Group of the BDA. We also have links with other specialist groups of the BDA.

Candidates should be a Registered Dietitian, preferably with some experience of working/placements in a mental health setting, with excellent communication and IT skills. A working knowledge of behaviour change and motivational interviewing would be desirable. Regular clinical supervision with the Lead Dietitian will be provided and there will be a strong emphasis on Continued Professional Development and post-graduate training.
